Hard Rock Cafe New York recently had the extreme honor of hosting the kick-off event for the Light Of Day Foundation’s epic series of concerts to raise money for Parkinson’s research and support of families dealing with this disease. Even better than hosting the event was the fact that the headliner was Gary U.S. Bonds, legendary R&B singer. Bonds first rose to prominence in the early 1960s, when his song, “Quarter to Three,” released in June 1961, reached Number 1 on the Billboard chart. Bonds’ other Top 10 hits at the time included “New Orleans,” “School is Out,” and “Dear Lady Twist.” He headlined a 1963 European tour, which also included The Beatles. Supporting him earlier in the night were Willie Nile, The Liza Colby Sound, and Joe D’Urso & The Stone Caravan, all putting their heart and soul into the night. [more]
The Light of Day concert series is now in its 13th year. What began as a single concert at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, New Jersey has grown into 35 shows in 12 countries in the U.S., Canada and Europe. This year Light of Day concerts in Asbury Park, New Jersey took place from Thursday, January 17 through Monday, January 21, 2013. The funds raised are donated to help the fight against Parkinson’s disease and related illnesses by funding research into better treatments, cures and support for patients suffering from Parkinson’s disease and related illnesses.
We just wanted to share some pics and give a huge thank you to all involved in this incredible night of music and awareness. You all rock!
